This is my first foray into food blogging. I’ve long posted photos of my exploits in the kitchen on sites like Flickr and Facebook. Lately, I’ve wanted to write more on why I cook the way I do.

This blog was inspired by a recent purchase — a chest freezer. I needed to buy one because my kitchen freezer is always filled to overflowing with food I’ve prepped and frozen. I shop at local farmers markets and like to cook ahead on weekends.

After reading books like Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and Omnivore’s Dilemma, I make an effort to buy local, fresh food whenever possible. This blog will feature my attempts to cook and eat as locally as possible. I hope I inspire others to do the same. It’s better for you, the local economy and the environment.

I am a genealogist based on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I also like food and try to eat as locally and sustainably as possible. I have blogs about both!

  1. I loved ‘The Omnivore’s Dilemma’ too! Michael Pollan, Eric Schlosser, and Mark Bittman are among my fave food writers. Bittman and Pollan have also done some really good Ted talks.

You should really check out Kingsolver’s ‘Animal, Vegetable, Miracle’ if you haven’t yet — lots of good recipes and really funny stories about their attempts to grow their own food!
