In 2009, I read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. In that book, she and her family resolve to produce or trade for their own food for a year, forgoing grocery store shopping entirely. The book inspired me to rethink the way I buy, prepare and eat food too. I haven’t completely given up on the grocery store, but I do most of my shopping at local farmers markets instead. I also try to grow as much of my own food as I can. I’ve almost (almost) given up all processed foods.
Along the way, I’ve learned I have many food allergies and sensitivities. I am allergic to eggs and have a wheat sensitivity. I also try to avoid sulfites, nitrates and MSG. This can make eating (particularly dining out) quite a challenge.
This blog covers all of these issues. I share recipes that meet my dietary needs and post about the challenges and successes I have in my garden. Every once in a while, I might go on a tear about the local food movement and related issues.
I hope you enjoy reading!
